The Scenic Drive with Rian 7 Jul – Dr Taban left his home country of the Republic of South Sudan at the age of 16 after his father was killed in the South Sudanese Civil War. He completed his secondary education with the help of charity groups, including Mercy House, and went on to study medicine at Medunsa University.

But his book focuses more on his amazing story of fleeing Sudan on foot as a 16 year old boy and landing up in JHB 18 months later. His story is harrowing, but one of ultimate success and overcoming poverty and everything that was thrown at him along the way. It’s a feel-good story and Dr Taban is just an amazingly positive person.
